چکیده

To recognize an object in an image, we must determine the best-fit transformation which maps an object model into the image data. In this paper, we propose a new alignment approach to recovering those parameters, based on centroid alignment of corresponding feature groups built in the model and data. To derive such groups of features, we exploit a clustering technique that minimizes intraclass scatter in coordinates that have been normalized up to rotations using invariant properties of planar patches. The present method uses only a single pair of 2D model and data pictures even though the object is 3D. Experimental results both through computer simulations and tests on natural pictures show that the proposed method can tolerate considerable perturbations of features including even partial occlusions of the surface. c © 1998 Academic Press

Multiscale Object Recognition under Affine Transformation

A method to recognize planar objects undergoing affine transformation is proposed in this paper. The method is based upon wavelet multiscale features and Hopfield neural networks. The feature vector consists of the multiscale wavelet transformed extremal evolution. The evolution contains the information of the contour primitives in a multiscale manner, which can be used to discriminate dominant...

Quantitative Endoscopy: Uncertainty Analysis of Motion Estimation with Robust Feature Matching

Feature matching based 3D reconstruction is a standard technique in 3D Computer Vision. An natural extension is to reconstruct dynamic surfaces from videos, such as reconstructing sinus surfaces from endoscopic videos. However, since the camera is moving and the sinus surfaces are normally deformable and non-planar, the feature matching is usually unsatisfactory. We will employ a state-of-the-a...

Affine Epipolar Direction from Two Views of a Planar Contour

Most approaches to camera motion estimation from image sequences require matching the projections of at least 4 non-coplanar points in the scene. The case of points lying on a plane has only recently been addressed, using mainly projective cameras. We here study what can be recovered from two uncalibrated views of a planar contour under affine viewing conditions. We prove that the affine epipol...

A Novel Approach for Affine Point Pattern Matching

Affine point pattern matching (APPM) is an integral part of many pattern recognition problems. Given two sets P and Q of points with unknown assignments pi → qj between the points, no additional information is available. The following task must be solved: – Find an affine transformation T such that the distance between P and the transformed set Q′ = TQ is minimal. In this paper, we present a ne...

Robust Identification of Locally Planar Objects Represented by 2D Point Clouds under Affine Distortions

The matching of point sets that are characterized only by their geometric configuration is a challenging problem. In this paper, we present a novel point registration algorithm for robustly identifying objects represented by two dimensional point clouds under affine distortions. We make no assumptions about the initial orientation of the point clouds and only incorporate the geometric configura...

A complete bifurcation analysis of planar conewise affine systems ⋆

This paper presents a procedure to find all limit sets near bifurcating equilibria in continuous, piecewise affine systems defined on a conic partition of R. To guarantee completeness of the obtained limit sets, new conditions for the existence or absence of limit cycles are combined with the study of return maps. With these results a complete bifurcation analysis of a class of planar conewise ...
